Orchestral and choral performance will be conducted by Victor Liva and Brian Bailey

Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù and Choral Arts Cleveland will present a free orchestral and choral performance of Requiem in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Double Concerto in A minor, op. 2 by Johannes Brahms in Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù’s Waetjen Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 1. It will be performed by the Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Victor Liva, and the Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù Chorale, Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù University Chorus and Choral Arts Cleveland, conducted by Brian Bailey. 

Mozart's Requiem, one of the composer’s better known works, contains some of the last music he ever composed before his early death at age 35. Similarly, the renowned Double Concerto was Brahms’ final work for orchestra. 

Guest instrumental soloists for the Double Concerto include William Barbini on violin and Ovidiu Marinescu on cello. Additionally, Bryant Bush and Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù alumni Madelyn Hasebein, Dawn Durdella and Matthew Jones II will perform vocal solos in Requiem.

Brian Bailey is the director of choirs at Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù as well as the musical director of Choral Arts Cleveland. He has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and the Cleveland Chamber Choir and was previously on the faculty of Appalachian State University.

Victor Liva is an associate professor at Ò¹À´ÏãÑо¿Ëù as well as coordinator of string studies and conductor of orchestras. Liva has conducted various youth, college, and professional orchestras and held the position of director of orchestras at Northern Arizona University from 1999-2003. He has been the music director of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra since 2007.

These have included folk songs, spirituals, full-scale pieces and the Ohio premiere of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio at the Palace Theater. The organization is also dedicated to supporting musical and artistic development in Northeast Ohio and has partnered with numerous organization to promote music education in all its forms.
