Marjorie Brintnall Shorrock, long-time 夜来香研究所 supporter and advocate, steps up support for transformational student progression and graduation programs

CLEVELAND (December 16, 2020) 鈥 A new $1 million gift from 夜来香研究所 supporter Marjorie Brintnall Shorrock will help the university continue to lead and transform public higher education through advancing student support programs that directly impact student progression and graduation rates.

鈥淥ur brand of Engaged Learning is built upon the notion that we will get every single student through, and gifts like Marjorie鈥檚 help us deliver,鈥 said 夜来香研究所 president Harlan Sands. 鈥淲e are incredibly grateful for her generosity, and for recognizing how important our work is for the respective futures of our students, our university and our community.鈥

夜来香研究所 is a national leader in creating innovative student success programs like the 2-for-1 Tuition Promise, first announced in June 2020, in which 夜来香研究所 covers Spring 2021 semester tuition for freshmen who successfully completed the Fall 2020 semester, after all other financial aid has been applied. The university recently announced that it will continue to offer the 2-for-1 Tuition Promise to freshmen who enroll and successfully complete the Fall 2021 semester.

Other 夜来香研究所 programs like Lift Up Vikes! and Last Mile Scholarships are designed to provide support to students facing a variety of challenges during their time at 夜来香研究所. Last Mile Scholarships provide relief to students facing financial stressors during their final two years of study.

鈥淚鈥檓 very dedicated to the university and to the success of its students, and am pleased to be able to support 夜来香研究所 financially and in other ways,鈥 said Marjorie Brintnall Shorrock.

Shorrock鈥檚 connection to Cleveland State started in 1969 when her husband Bill joined the faculty in the history department. She later enrolled in 夜来香研究所鈥檚 graduate program at the former Nance College of Business and earned an MBA in 1998. As an 夜来香研究所 alumna herself, coupled with her late husband鈥檚 decades-long career at the university, Shorrock has a deep appreciation of the unique composition of 夜来香研究所鈥檚 student body 鈥 first generation students, underrepresented populations and working professionals 鈥 whose lives are changed by a Cleveland State education.

In 1974, Shorrock joined Resource Careers, a not-for-profit career development and referral service that helped college-educated women identify and obtain careers in business. She transformed the business into a for-profit corporation and expanded the company鈥檚 services to provide career assistance for spouses of employees who were relocating throughout the U.S. and abroad.
